1. An increase in the overall school-fees: Every year since our founding we have witnessed raises in school fees from 5 up to 15% (in rare cases). Over the years, this has led to significantly increase school fees that make this adjustment necessary.
2. A strong Kenyan Shilling: In recent months, the Kenyan Shilling has steadily gained in total 20% in value compared to all the major currencies Aiducation is invested in (CHF, EURO and GBP).
3. Stronger focus: Starting 2012 we will focus on solely awarding scholarships to students in their first year of secondary education. This will reduce the amount of money in our “scholarship pool”, a pool created by our previous policy when we also admitted AiduFellows at later points in their secondary education. This Scholarship pool money has been allocated and used to flexibly cover school fees for our AiduFellows. With our new focus on first year secondary students, our average amount of school fees will increase.
The new price policy will ensure that we will on the one hand continue to fulfil our financial obligations and on the other hand can give our students the chance to learn at the best schools of Kenya. Furthermore, this new policy reiterates our comittment to a very high efficiency and slim processes. We therefore continue to guarantee that at least 90% of money donated for a scholarship will directly be invested into school fees.
