BALKHIS STORY

Posted on 10/09/2011 at 05:45PM

Being a girl in a developing country is rarely easy. Poverty often has a more destructive effect on girls, who are more easily excluded from education and therefore from remunerating activities. In some areas, cultural prejudices against girls minimise their chances to access a good education and escape poverty.

Balkhis

It takes the extraordinary willpower of a girl like Balkhis, and a little help from Aiducation, to break the cycle of poverty and start building future for girls in local communities.

AIDUCATION BIKE RIDE - RAISING MORE THAN 2 SCHOLARSHIPS

Posted on 08/08/2011 at 05:45PM

As part of a challenge during his MBA in Cambridge, UK, Patrick has gathered some friends for an incredible bike trip, all the way from Cambridge to Paris, and raised more than two scholarships on Justgiving. He tells us about his adventure:

Lisa and Timo can now both attend secondary school thanks to the bike challenge.

“Early on in our MBA at Cambridge Judge Business School, some of us discovered that there had been a ride from Cambridge to Paris organised by the previous cohort, to attend the MBA Tournament (MBAT) held at HEC in Paris during our final semester on the MBA. I contacted the guys from last year’s ride to get some more information about it and they proved most helpful with their advice and information, not least of which was that they had raised money for Aiducation with their ride. It was talked about more and more over the first semester and by the time MBAT was approaching there was a sizable group of us keen to make the trip, all of us keen to keep a great tradition and support for a great cause going.

Margaret and Anna - the 250th Scholarship

Posted on 04/05/2011 at 08:47AM

We are very happy to announce that as of today, we already have reached over 260 scholarships. With the help of our AiduMakers we were able to send over 260 talented teenagers to school and ensure that they can make the most out of their potential. To celebrate this strong relation with our supporters and to give you a glimpse behind the scene we choose to portray one of the AiduMaker-AiduFellow pairs in more detail – meet Margaret and Anna – Scholarship 250th.

Margaret is a 14 year-old orphan who was forced to flee her hometown after the post-election violence in 2008, but did not give up on her dream to become a computer engineer. Only a few months ago, Margaret had serious doubts on whether she would be able to continue her studies.

Meet Lynda, one of the first Aiducation Alumni

Posted on 03/09/2011 at 08:47AM

We’ve been waiting for that moment since the very start of Aiducation. The first batch of AiduFellows has finally graduated from high school!

At the moment, many Kenyan secondary school students celebrate four years of hard work and academic achievements following the publication of Kenyan Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) results. This moment has a particular meaning for 10 new Aiducation alumni: 4 years ago, finishing secondary school seemed impossible simply because of high school fees.
